About us
Overview

The Powder Metallurgy Research Institute of Central South University is a national level research center integrating education, scientific research, and technology transfer, dedicated to advanced materials research and High-caliber talent development.

The research institute has established a national first-class discipline of "Materials Science and Engineering", first-level doctoral and master's programs, and postdoctoral research stations. There are 5 research divisions and 2 research centers, with a faculty/staff of over 230 members. The institute enrolls 1951 students (March, 2025), including 940 undergraduate students, 514 master's students, and 497 doctoral candidates.

The research institute has established a systematic material research system, including integrated material calculation, refractory metals and hard alloys, friction and wear reducing materials, powder metallurgy superalloys, special ceramics, lightweight alloys, electrical and electronic materials, and carbon based composites. Researches spans from basic material theory research, application basic research, engineering research to material performance testing and evaluation. The research institute actively promotes coordinated development of industry-academia-research collaboration, leveraging the National Engineering Research Center of Powder Metallurgy as an innovation incubator to commercialize advanced technologies.
