Central South University is located in Changsha, Hunan Province, a renowned historical and cultural city in China. The Powder Metallurgy Research Institute (PMRI) of Central South University is a national-level research and talent cultivation base integrating education, scientific research, and technology transfer. It hosts several national and provincial research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Powder Metallurgy, the National Engineering Research Center for Powder Metallurgy, the National Key Laboratory of Lightweight High-Strength Structural Materials, and the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Powder Metallurgy Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. The institute comprises five research divisions and currently has over 230 faculty and staff, including one Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, more than 20 national-level distinguished scholars, and a vibrant, young academic team.
PMRI offers the "Materials Science and Engineering" discipline, a national first-class discipline, with doctoral and master’s degree programs and postdoctoral research stations. It has over 1,900 students, including 900 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students. The discipline received an "A" rating in the fifth round of national discipline evaluations and ranks 15th globally (top 0.1‰) in the ESI subject rankings, maintaining its position among China’s leading disciplines.
