May 10, 2024

On May 9, 2024, the Powder Metallurgy Research Institute held the second “Golden Powder Forum” of the “The Voice of Powder Metallurgy: Youth Matters” series in the conference room 603 of the Sany Building. The forum featured four young faculty members from different research fields—Kang Xiao, Wang Yichen, Mei Lin, and Jiang Fengze—who shared their experiences on professional development and personal growth. The event was hosted by Li Feihong, a master’s student from the 2023 cohort.

The event began with Li Feihong introducing the agenda. Then, the four teachers took turns sharing their professional development and growth experiences. Professor Kang Xiao emphasized the importance of setting clear goals during graduate studies, noting that every effort will yield results. He also advised students to seek help from their supervisors when faced with unsolvable problems. Professor Wang Yichen highlighted that research should have clear experimental objectives, and encouraged students to take extensive notes, reflect frequently, and engage in discussions to learn from different perspectives. Professor Mei Lin shared interesting stories and insights from her research journey, encouraging students to cherish research opportunities as their research achievements will follow them for life, and the experience will be invaluable. Professor Jiang Fengze offered advice on tackling difficulties and challenges in the research process. He stressed the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest developments in relevant fields when determining research directions and highlighted the need to consider journal selection and the submission cycle when publishing research results. The teachers’ shared experiences and advice provided valuable insights for the students.

Afterward, the four teachers engaged in interactive discussions with the students. In response to questions about the motivation for studying abroad, the teachers shared their views. They explained that studying abroad can broaden one’s horizons, introduce new ideas, and improve English skills, all of which can facilitate research. The teachers’ answers helped alleviate the students’ concerns.

The event effectively addressed graduate students’ concerns regarding their academic and career development, providing them with clearer direction in their respective fields. With that, the event successfully concluded.
