Thermodynamic Modelling of Phase Diagrams 2024年8月24日周六19:00-21:00 三一大楼506

报告摘要:

Phase diagrams are one of the most important sources of information about phase composition and their thermodynamic stability as a function of temperature, pressure and composition, and are therefore important for different industrial processes (casting, heat treatment, and alloying).Phase diagrams also play a pivotal role in facilitating microstructure manipulation to obtain a desired set of physical and mechanical properties for wide variety of applications ranging from acrospace to automotive and beyond. It is therefore important to understand how these phase diagrams are developed and can be exploited to obtain desired set of properties. The focus of this talk would be on experimental determination and thermodynamic modelling of phase diagrams. By combining experimental approach with thermodynamic modeling, alloy design process (to meet increasingly stringent performance requirements) can be significantly accelerated and the need for costly trial-and-error experiments can be reduced. In the first part of this short course, utilization of different experimental techniques (SEM, EPMA, DTA/DSC, XRD, etc) for determination of binary and ternary phase diagrams would be discussed. The second part of the talk would be focused on utilization of different thermodynamic properties (CP, AHmix, ASmix, μ, G, etc) for thermodynamic modeling of phase diagrams.
